re:connexion

Connexion is an old Methodist word for the community of Methodists engaged in a common mission to witness to the saving grace of Jesus Christ in the world (the American spelling is ‘connection’ but I like the traditional way).United Methodists more recently refer to “the connectional church” to emphasize the global connection among United Methodists who bring together common resources for common mission.

Believing that the Methodist connexion, in America and around the world, is in need of renewal, this blog is designed to contribute to a conversation about renewing the connexion, which might have these central elements:

  • bearing witness to the apostolic faith expressed in the Wesleyan tradition,
  • reinvigorating the church’s missional calling in North America, and
  • reclaiming the vital evangelical connection between personal witness and social justice.

I invite you to add your voice to this conversation and contribute your own ideas and perspectives on the revitalization of the Wesleyan tradition more specifically embodied in the United Methodist Church.

I’m a student at Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, DC, with plans to graduate in 2010. I’m passionate about helping the mainline church come to grips with the new realities of mission and ministry in a “post-everything” world, and particularly a post-Christendom world in which the traditional, institutional church has largely lost its voice. Always seeking God’s call, I intend to pursue pastoral ministry or doctoral studies following graduation from Wesley.
